I think so many people are caught up in the numbers game that they forget what their goal is. I recently had a conversation with a fellow marketer who boasted about his very high twitter and facebook fan page followers. His numbers were indeed impressive, yet when I asked him how many of those followers have either turned into paying customers or at least good potential customers, there was dead silence followed by the word "none". I wonder about those who have tens of thousands followers and who are also following tens of thousands people on Twitter and can't imagine how anyone would have the time to actually follow that many people!
